Food and Beverage
An environmental water process expert and partner to many food and beverage industry clients, Hydroxyl has experience delivering economic wastewater treatment systems for Prepared Foods, Beverage, Dairy, Meat, and Poultry applications throughout North America.
Wastewater generated from food and beverage processing operations has distinctive characteristics that differentiate it from other industries. Typically this process wastewater has high concentrations of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS), and associated odours; these characteristics are stringently regulated for discharge to sewer systems or direct discharge via NPDES permits to rivers, lakes, and streams.
Food and beverage wastewater is high-strength but extremely biodegradable and typically non-toxic - making it the ideal feed water for Hydroxyl ActiveCell treatment systems. Resilient to process fluctuations and designed automated operation, ActiveCell technology delivers highly efficient water process capabilities optimized for the unique needs of food and beverage producers.
ActiveCell™ biofilm carrier technology achieves high-rate biodegradation of organic matter within a compact, economically operated system. ActiveCell biofilm carriers establish a high-density population of bacteria within the process; this bacteria naturally oxidizes organic wastewater constituents, reliably biodegrading target constituents from process wastewater streams prior to discharge.
ActiveCell™ food and beverage wastewater process systems offer several unique advantages:
- Compact design offering excellent land-use or facility-space efficiency
- Resilient biofilm carrier process is highly resistant to influent fluctuations
- Automated operation
- Process optimization prior to install via Hydroxyl testing and computer simulation
- Economically meets application-specific effluent discharge requirements
